Breast Center Receives Full Accreditation

After an intensive review and thorough site visit, the Breast Center at the Cancer Center at Lake Manassas has been granted a three-year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. The Breast Center offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary breast care. Its outstanding physicians and technologists are ready to help women cope with the physical as well as emotional consequences of breast cancer.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is given only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care. During the rigorous survey process, the center must show that it complies with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease. The standards include proficiency in the areas of center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.

Receiving care at an NAPBC-accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to:
• Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services.
• A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options. The team includes physicians specializing in breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, radiology and pathology.
• Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options.
• Most important, quality breast care close to home.

Heart Disease in Women Grows More Prevalent

Here is "must" reading for all women; it's a compelling article about women and heart attacks. The blogger states, "Today, we will lose one woman every minute to heart disease. More women will die from heart disease than from all cancers combined. And to rattle the feminists, heart disease now kills more women than men." Read the whole article here.
