Fauquier Health Cyclist Thanks Supporters

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank you so much for your support for my Tour de Cure campaign. There are not words to express how much I appreciate all of your support, donations and words of encouragement. Besides being a giant personal feat, it was a major success in the fight against diabetes. From my understanding there were over 900 riders there, and hundreds of thousands of dollars raised to support research to find a cure -- from this ride alone.

It's very touching to see the Type I and Type II folks riding in their red jerseys, and even more touching to see the teams riding for children or loved ones. There were dozens of motorcycles patrolling the routes and hundreds of volunteers keeping us safe, well hydrated, well fed and happy. There was one church in particular who enlisted all of their ladies to scream for the riders. They were at every rest stop, some intersections, sometimes just on the side of the road, and often times riding up and down the route screaming words of encouragement as if we were winning the Tour de France. God bless them....I hope they weren't in the choir because they will be hoarse for a few days.

Because of your donations, I was among the proud few individuals who wore the green jersey for raising over $500 for diabetes research. After about 90 miles when I really (really, really, really) wanted to quit riding and lay down somewhere, I took comfort in knowing that I was riding for about $8 per mile. That is amazing, and it truly kept me going when things were tough. The total course turned out to be 101 miles....there wasn't much comfort in that last mile, I think I cried for most of that one.

For those of you who are number people, here are some stats:

Total Distance: 101 miles

Moving Time: 5 hours 22 minutes

Average speed (moving): 18.7 mph

Max Speed: 27.4 mph

Average Cadence: 79 rpm

Total rest stops: 5 (there were 7, I skipped 2 and regret it)

Gatorade: 60 oz

Clif Bars: 2 (chocolate almond fudge)

Bananas: 3

Orange: 1 wedge

Water: 40 oz

Duplex Creme Cookies: 4

Motrin: 4

Rain Showers: 1

Loose dogs on the route: 1

Thank you again!!!!

Al
